Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of my main products and ancillary texts?

The Annotations on my YouTube video didn’t appear when the video plays so I have wrote them separately:

Annotations on YouTube Video:
Over the Poster: In my products I made sure that I kept the same colour scheme throughout to produce continuity so the audience are able to connect both products together. I have used the colour white for both of my titles and other text as well as the colour red and used the same fonts across both products. When taking my images for my products I wanted to make sure the audience were able to recognise the main protagonist on the poster and connect the two together. However, I have successfully kept the antagonists identity secret which is anchored in both my poster and magazine by using his hooded shadow and a camera which is a common convention I have used in both of my products.
Over the Magazine:
A key identification on my magazine cover is the layout of my cover lines; they are positioned to the left of my product and mainly cover the character in the background which is the antagonist in our trailer. This simple technique makes the female character at the front stand out engaging with the audience with direct mode of address. Therefore, not only does the layout of my cover lines help to hide the identity of the antagonist holding the camera which is also represented in my poster but it also allows the audience to engage with the main protagonist. The clothing in my magazine and poster images link as I decided to use similar clothes of a hoodie for the antagonist and a jumper for the protagonist which successfully link my products with a variety of conventions that I have used across both products.
Over the comparison of existing texts – Poster:
I was inspired by a variety of elements on these existing posters. I loved the idea of a shadow dominating the image presenting the other character as less powerful and innocent. The shadow idea was effective in many ways by connoting our synopsis using an image which has a powerful meaning. I was inspired by the fonts and decided to have one piece of text in a different colour as it effectively stood out, I decided to have the release date in a vibrant red as I wanted the audience to be drawn which is a common convention on posters in order to promote their product.
Over the comparison of existing texts – Magazine:
When producing my magazine cover I took inspiration from the Sherlock magazine to use a image which had direct mode of address as it makes a statement and connects to the audience. I was influenced by the woman in black and Sherlock magazine to have the title and barcode at the bottom of the magazine as the bold film title catches your attention. The horror magazine brand gave me inspiration to use a copy right free blood splatter to identify and connote the magazine genre. The magazine cover has an impact on the film's promotion reaching a larger audience and increasing box office sales by promoting your product on numerous media platforms.
Over the Trailer:
Elements of my poster and magazine link with our trailer due to the use of lighting which is similar to my magazine cover. The uniform used in my magazine and poster is similar to the clothes worn in the trailer, they are different colours but have the same style of jeans and a jumper which connects all three of my products together connoting they are from the same product which is being advertised. The enigma of our antagonist is connoted in all three of my products as his identity is kept secret and unknown adding suspense and mystery. All three of my products are important in terms of building a campaign in order to promote the marketing of this product to receive an increase in box office sales. The use of serif fonts throughout all three products is another convention which connects them all together so the audience can easily spot the continuity.

After I looked at the BBFC guidelines we chose to certificate our trailer at the age of 15 due to the content and heavy psychological involvement. Although our trailer isn’t gory a 12 year old wouldn’t be suitable to watch our trailer as our main protagonist isn’t just effected physically but mentally so this is why we have chosen the age 15 certificate for these various reasons.
